Default A question about Running

I have been doing test runs all week to see if its somthing i would be good at and so far im doing well. I plan on offering free test runs to other players soon but im faced with a small problem.
I cant type, run and cast spells at the same time. When i have bought runs from others they are chatting with the group while doing the run. I cant figure out how to do this. Is it a matter of skill or is there a way to put your character on auto-run? I know i would still have to keep my skills up but i could do that and type but i dont want to have to stop to reply all the time. Also i dont want to seem rude by not talking to the people im running. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can auto-run by pressing R and then steer the character with Q and E or holding the right button of mouse.

Or just say that you are inexperienced and you can't talk and run.

Right as stated above. Its auto run. My wife is great at this and took her some time to learn, I can not wrap my mind around not using the mouse cause every time I click to move I take the cursor out of the chat box and then windows start to pop up on my screen as I try to type cause the short cuts get in the way..

So, I just run and not type until I get to the point where its time to pay up.

Most people do not care about talking they only want to go where they paid to be

As stated above, auto-run (check control options) + mouse rt-button to steer = fairly easy movement & chatting. However, GW is the sole reason I wore out the rt-mouse button on my old mouse.

Thank you for the tips on chatting. for now i think im gonna focus on just getting the run down and then work on my multi-tasking. I do have just a couple other questions about running. (not sure if i should make a new post or just add to this one.)

1-Im running with my Derv. And from the builds on WIKI they say to use a +5e/20%enchant weap and a shield . But would it hurt the run if i used a staff for more energy instead? I feel like the extra health and armor from the shield is not all to helpful.

2-Is there a way to mark the map with my route or is it a matter of memorizing the path to take. That seems to be my biggest problem right now. I tend to get lost if i take a wrong turn and i want to be sure to make the run fast as possible.

thanks again for all your tips.

It also depends on the skills used and the area being run. For example I've frequently used Avatar of Balthazar and some minor healing skills (and Eternal Aura) to run characters on my other accounts from Lion's Arch to Ascalon or the reverse. With very few exceptions, the run is pretty simple, and I don't have to use many skills. Once a minute or so -- meaning that I have lots of time to chat as I'm running along. (Although chatting to myself on my other account would be kind of silly)

If I ever learned how to run to Droknar's Forge, I doubt I'd have time to chat -- just based on what I've seen for skill use.

As someone paying for a run, I don't care if the person running is chatting at the same time. I hope they're friendly and cheerful at the beginning and end of the run, but if they're actually out running... doesn't matter. If I'm looking for a chat partner I'll stay in town.

Try both. It will probably change depending on the run, you may find that more energy is easier for you than the extra armor/health. You may not. Generally the builds on the wiki have been refined a fair bit, but there's nothing wrong with altering them to fit your personal play style (including running).

I have seen a few Texmods that will mark the mission map, but for my own part I just memorize the route.

1. The weapons (and mods) used in the original build would depend somewhat on what skills are in the build and where you are running. Feel free to experiment with what works best for you.

2. There is sort of a way to mark the route. After you done the run, open up your "U" map and make it big enough to show the whole path of red dots (or as much as you can). Save that as a screen shot - or a couple of screen shots if it's to long. You can crop the pictures and combine them later. Then, later on as you are doing runs, you can have the screenies open on your desktop. You can refer to them (if needed) by windowing or minimizing GW as you go, until you are familiar enough with the route.
